Steve Phillips, a lobbyist for DLA Piper, served for ten years as legislative director and general counsel for Sen. Jesse Helms (R-NC) before joining the private sector. In 2000 he served on the Bush-Cheney transition team, focusing on the Free Trade Agreement of the Americas Initiative, and U.S. - Canada bilateral trade issues. As a lobbyist he has also worked for Verner Liipfert. Recent clients include Armor Holdings (part of the BAE Group) BP, BellSouth, General Motors, Lockheed Martin, Merrill Lynch, Occidental Petroleum, Raytheon, and Verizon.[1] As a bundler, he has raised at least $100,000 for McCain's presidential campaign, according to information released by the campaign.[2]
